Pope Leo XIV received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Kamil El-Tayeb Idris Abdelhafiz, in the Vatican on Monday morning.
The Prime Minister subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Vatican Under-Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Monsignor Mih?i?? Blaj, at the Secretariat of State.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the conversations at the Secretariat of State were cordial and acknowledged good relations between the Holy See and Sudan.
It noted that discussions focused on the significant contribution of the local Church to the good of the country and the severe crisis that has been plaguing war-torn Sudan for the last three years.
In this regard, the statement continued, noting that “the urgent need to achieve a ceasefire, provide assistance to the population and initiate a sincere dialogue among all parties of the Sudanese nation was reiterated, with the aim of ending the conflict and collectively establishing peace.”
